Whitney Permit to Park in Front of Building
A Residential Parking Permit is required to park in front of The Whitney. The permit must be renewed annually. The annual cost is $10, but if you are a senior (65 and older) the cost is FREE.
The initial payment must be made in person (hours M-F, 7:30am to 2:00pm; closed for lunch 12-1), or mailed to: NDOT, 720 S. 5th St, Nashville, TN 37206. Checks should be made payable to NDOT, and include your Whitney address on the check. You will also need vehicle registration, drivers license and proof of residency (Address on DL or copy of electric bill).
Note: If you pay by mail, you will be required to pay the initial fee costs, even if you are a senior.
Each resident can request TWO visitor parking permits. The cost is $5 annually, but FREE if senior, 65 and older. Please have visitors put the permit on their dashboard to prevent being possibly ticketed.
Here are the steps to create a request for a Residential Parking Permit online:
1) Go to https://www.nashville.gov/
2) Click on “Submit a hubNashville Request” (next to mayor and vice mayor)
3) Click on “Permits” box
4) Click on “Parking Permits” box
5) Click on “Start New Request”
You will then be asked to complete the following sections of the request form:

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR RESIDENTIAL PERMIT PARKING
1. Permit holder must obey all posted parking restrictions except for time limit parking. Permit holders may park for unlimited periods of time in legal parking area.
2. An annual fee of $10 will be due, per permit, to the Nashville Department of Transportation upon completion of the application. Permits will expire on December 31st and must be renewed by permit holder annually by January 10th. The annual fee, payable to the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure, will be charged.
3. Permits are not transferable and are valid only in the area specified and only for the vehicle described on the permit.
4. A permit holder will have 10 days to apply for a new permit when changing vehicles. During this time, the holder shall attach to the permit a note explaining that he is obtaining a new vehicle. After 10 days, if a new permit has not been obtained the new vehicle will be subject to a citation ($10.00) and risk of being towed to the Metropolitan Tow-in lot.
5. The permit must be displayed in the extreme left hand corner of the dashboard (driver’s side) and be clearly visible and readable through the windshield. A vehicle bearing a permit that cannot be read by enforcement personnel will be subject to a parking citation.
6. Lost permits will not be replaced until January 1st of the next year.
7. Damaged, worn or faded permits can be replaced by turning in the original permit. There will be a $5.00 charge for a replacement permit.
8. Visitor permits will be issued only to existing permit holders. Visitor permits will be valid for one calendar year, and are not transferable, but are renewable upon proper application.
9. Visitor permits are subject to the same rules and regulations as permanent permits.
10. Proof of residency for the residential permit area that an applicant is applying for must be submitted with the application in order for a permit to be issued.
